Programme Highlights

As a participant in our Homestay Programme, you’ll live with a  Chinese family and experience their way of life. You’ll take part in family activites, join family meals and explore the city through they eyes of a local. Outside of the family home join our many cultural activities and make like-minded friends also on the programme.

Paring with Family

We pair families and candidates based on common interests and shared aims. You will be given the chance to speak to a suggested family before deciding, and if you’re not happy we’ll find you another one. All families have been carefully vetted, have hosted foreigners before and offer a good standard of living to their guests.

Food & Accommodation

Our host families provide private room accommodation equipped with air conditioning, a desk and a wardrobe to make you feel at home. Some families also offer guests a private bathroom. Your hosts will offer three homecooked meals per day. You’ll have the chance to indicate dietary requirements prior to placement.

Cultural Activities

You’ll be invited to join frequent cultural activities and excursions to help you meet other participants and learn more about Chinese culture. These include tai chi, calligraphy and cooking classes, as well as trips to local attractions around your city. You’ll be added to a WeChat group through which you can meet other participants.

Orientation Day

All China Homestay participants are invited to attend our day-long Orientation Day in London a few weeks before departure. Upon arrival in your host city, you’ll be met by a repesentative from our partner organisation who’ll give you a short orientation, a transport and SIM card and introduce you to your family.

24/7 Support

Upon arrival in your host city, you’ll be given the contact details of a local representative from our partner company. They are tasked for making sure you’re safe, well and happy, so you can call them at any time you need. Additionally, our UK based team are on hand to help with any practical issues and give cultural and lesson planning support.

Monthly Allowance

You will receive a monthly allowance in return for your tutoring work, providing you complete 15 hours per week. This starts at 900 RMB for the first month, and increases per month following that. With accommodation and food included, you’ll find this goes a long way no matter which city you’re in!
