Over the years, we’ve seen many of our teachers thrive in China, and make the most of the opportunities that are available.

We’re passionate about helping more people have amazing experiences there.

Here’s a breakdown of the key requirements for a teaching job in China.

Being a native English speaker from one of seven countries

To be eligible for a visa to teach English in China, you need to be a passport holder of one of the following countries: UK, Ireland, US, New Zealand, Australia, Canada or South Africa.

A degree

You’ll also need to have a degree in any discipline (it doesn’t need to be a degree related to English or teaching), and it can be of any degree classification.

A teaching qualification

Grammer points that are part of a 120-hour TEFL courseThis can either a TEFL,  CELTA , or a TESOL certificate; this article explores the differences between these qualifications.

If you don’t have a teaching qualification yet, don’t worry!

You can move forward with your application with us, and get qualified in the months before departure to China.

Most of our teachers are TEFL qualified, and it’s the qualifications that’s quickest to obtain. There’s a wide range of TEFL courses in terms of quality and price, and we’re proud to cooperate with TEFL UK, as they offer an accredited, reasonably priced course that’s packed with invaluable tips.

It includes an overview of the English language and its grammar (i.e. reading, speaking, listening, writing), as well as lesson planning, and how to manage your students.

TEFL UK’s course is a great opportunity to gain new skills and get ready to teach successfully in China.

As part of the visa process, you will be asked to provide a clean background check to prove that you do not have a criminal record. In the UK, the most commonly used document is a DBS, in the US it’s an FBI background check.

What’s NOT needed

No teaching experience or knowledge of Mandarin is needed!

The most important thing we are looking for is bags of enthusiasm and an ability to make learning English fun and exciting for students.
